If there is one thing no one wants to spend a lot of time working on, it is degreasing something. The process is often highly unpleasant, between the unappealing visual of trying to remove caked on mineral deposits from a fixture, and the often unpleasant smell of the task. Purchasing a strong, capable degreaser that will take care of a lot of the heavy lifting for you is important.

That is why we went out of our way to find the best possible degreasers on the market for you, which allows you to have more precious free time with family and friends instead of cleaning up any number of nasty fixtures in your home or apartment area. After looking at a plethora of different brands on the market, we managed to narrow down our three favorite picks, with Krud Kutter 32 Original Concentrated Degreaser taking our Top Pick for this category, with Easy Off Professional taking the Honorable Mention spot and D-Limonene Orange Oil Concentrate earning our Green Pick award.

But how did we make these determinations in the first place? Well, we decided to divide up our primary grading criteria into three different categories and then average the scores of these categories together afterwards to make a final composite score. You can read below to learn more about our selection process and how we ultimately came to our final conclusions.

From our team: Be careful of where you rinse the rag or sponge you use while cleaning out grease. If you rinse it out in a normal kitchen sink there is a risk you will create a clogged pipe situation later on due to grease build-up in the pipes. Instead, we recommend using a sterile bucket whenever possible that you then dispose of in an approved trash space for grease. Save the enviorenment and your own plumber bill at the same time!

Testing Categories

To help you identify which degreasers we truly believed were the best on the market, we split our evaluation into three separate categories: power, application, and odor. We’ll break these down into more detail for you to provide more insight into our process:

Power: For our purposes, power refers to how much of the degreaser you would need to use during one standard cleaning session in order to successfully remove all of the grease and dirt off of whatever fixture you were trying to clean in your home. If it took more than the recommended amount on the bottle, or if we had to use a significant amount of the bottle in one go around, we lowered the score of that product in this category.

It should be noted that we weighed this score more significantly than the other two categories when coming up with our final averages. The reason for this is that if it required an excess amount of degreaser to clean a fixture in your home or apartment in one sitting, you would end up having to spend a lot of money on this product on a regular basis. That idea did not sit well with us, so that viewpoint is reflected in our review grading system.

Application:

Application is defined, in this instance, with regards to how easy it was to get the product out of the bottle and whether the packaging was in any way, shape, or form damaged or otherwise defective. If the nozzle on the bottle was broken upon arrival, or if the spray seemed to be stuck in the bottle for whatever reason, we made a note of it and lowered the product’s score accordingly.

Odor: Trying to degrease something is, at the outset, often a very smelly process, to put it mildly. We did not feel that the task needed to be made more unpleasant by using a degreaser that also had an unpleasant odor to boot, so if the product in any way had an unpleasant smell during one of our trials, we lowered the score of it in this particular category.

Most notable upside: The fact that it has a heavily concentrated formula, is all purpose, and is made right here in the United States of America are just a few of the many reasons why Krud Kutter ended up getting our coveted Top Pick. It is capable of cleaning anything from grills to glass, and the formula makeup means that one bottle will last you more than just a little while.

Biggest downsides: Unfortunately, the biggest issue we seemed to notice with this product is that it had trouble repeating the fantastic results it would give us on a consistent basis. We’re not sure if a handful of bottles were just a bad batch or if some other factor was at play, but it happened consistently enough for us to make a note of it here.

Honorable Mention

Easy
Off
Professional

Easy Off Professional has been one of the world’s most trusted brands for years, and after you use it a couple of teams, it becomes very easy to see why that is, as it is a highly effective product.

Price Check

Most notable upside: In terms of overall quality, Easy Off Professional is a pretty tough product to beat when you are trying to find the best degreaser. In fact, if we are being honest, the only reason that it walked away with the Honorable Mention pick in this category is because the bottle is somewhat small, so you may end up having to buy two or three of them at once.

Biggest downsides: One unfortunate thing that we did notice about this product was that it did have a tendency to leave a residue behind in some cases. While using it you have to be very vigilant about not breathing in any of the chemicals, as the chemical formula for this product happens to be particularly strong, so do be mindful of that when you are planning to use it.

Green Pick

D-Limonene
Cold Pressed
Orange Oil

D-Limonene is a cold pressed orange oil cleaner that is not only made from all natural products, but also happens to have a great smell to go with it, as it is made from all natural citrus.

Price Check

Most notable upside: D-Limonene has a lot going for it in terms of the fact that it smells very good, can make up to 20 bottles of ready to use cleaner in one purchase, and is far more environmentally friendly than a lot of degreasing products, which tend to be made from harsh chemicals.

Biggest downsides: During our testing of this product, we did notice some mild allergic reactions amongst some of our staff. We also noticed when using it on certain types of flooring it seems as if a dark, sticky residue was left behind, though this was not a consistent result for all of our testing.

Tips for Effective Degreasing

To get the most out of your degreaser, simply follow the instructions on the back of the packaging and use it accordingly. In many instances, you will need to dilute the degreaser with water before you can use it, and if that is the case, take care to do so, as those safety instructions are there for a reason.

Once you have the chemical solution properly mixed together and ready to spray, simply spray it on a rag, sponge, or other cleaning implement and begin to scrub accordingly.

A Note About Safety and Storage

To store these chemical in a safe fashion, make sure they are in a place that is not prone to excessive moisture or leakage, as that could rot the metal on the cans and cause the chemicals to begin leaking.

These are extremely harsh cleaning chemicals, and as such, are not meant for any type of human consumption at any time. If you have pets or small children in your home or apartment, it is absolutely vital you keep these cleaning chemicals out of their reach at all times by storing them on a high shelf or in a hard to reach place.

If your child or pet does accidentally consume degreaser, call your local hospital or vet immediately and ask them what the correct course of action is. Do not delay in making this phone call, as time is absolutely of the essence in poisoning cases, so follow the doctor’s instructions to the letter.
