Most notable upside: We found ProCom to be a great option due to its dual fuel design. It looked nice in every setting we tried. We were also impressed by how much heat the unit put out. It has the option of being professionally connected to existing gas lines in the home which can save some time.
Biggest downsides: However, we noticed the door and the logs weren’t quite level but that doesn’t affect the operation. There’s no glass or screen other than the metal grill on the front of the stove, which is concerning if kids or pets are present.
At 20,000 BTU, this dual fuel stove puts out enough heat to cover 700 square feet. It works on liquid propane or natural gas, with a push-button start and a simple knob to adjust the flame.
Most notable upside: We liked that the Pleasant Hearth puts out powerful heat. We also appreciated how compact it is, especially for small spaces like garages, sunrooms, and attic offices. The look of the real logs in the fireplace is a nice touch when sitting back and relaxing.
Biggest downsides: We did find the controls are in an awkward spot that had us laying on the floor to turn the gas stove on or adjust the flame.

Most notable upside: Overall, we were impressed with the Sure Heat. It was easy to set up, connect and install. We were surprised by how realistic it looks and the amount of heat it produces.One of our favorite features was the included safety clamp for the flue.
Biggest downsides: The only minor issue is this insert needs to be in a fireplace at least 28" in front width; 15" deep, and 21" in back width, which limits its use in some homes. We also recommend replacing the connector pipe with a more flexible alternative since the one included is a bit short and prone to cracking.

It is a two-pipe system where one pipe feeds in fresh air from the outside for combustion while the other pipe removes any combustion fumes and releases them away from your home. The pipes can either lead directly outside or go through a flue. Direct vents are known to have 70-80% efficiency when it comes to directing heat and removing toxic fumes.
There are some gas fireplaces that have no vent system, and instead, they are designed to burn extra clean and will only produce around 40,000 BTUs to reduce the risk of producing toxic fumes. They also come with an oxygen-deprivation sensor that automatically shuts down the unit if the oxygen levels in the room fall below 18% (20% is normal and acceptable).
