House plants come in all shapes and sizes, and most of them are very easy to care for, since they require little maintenance. Having plants in the house also naturally purifies the air you breathe to provide a cleaner indoor environment, and it doesn’t hurt that even a single plant on your window sill is appealing and goes with any home decor.

We have evaluated hundreds of different indoor plants in order to find the best selections to incorporate in your home or office. Testing Categories

We want you to easily understand how we came up with our selections. Our testing categories included ease of care, maintenance, and size. We’ve explained our criteria for each category below:

Ease of Care: When we tested this category, we looked at what needed to happen on a daily basis to keep the plants looking great. This includes how often the plants need to be watered, what type of sunlight they need, and even the ideal pot size. House plants shouldn’t require a lot of daily care, so this played a major factor in our results.

Maintenance: The maintenance category is focused more on long-term care. Plants that needed a lot of pruning or re-potting didn’t receive as high of a score for this category. We also don’t want house plants that lose leaves frequently or constantly need to have their soil changed, since it can end up being messy in the home.

Size: The size of house plants is tricky, but we believed it was worth it to evaluate this category closely. Some people want house plants to put on their window sill, while others may want a larger plant to put in the corner of a room. Many plants start out small, but can be transplanted to grow larger over time. The size when purchased, compared to the size it could potentially grow to, were both part of our scoring equation.

These house plants earned our Top Pick because of the variety you receive when ordering, and the quality is outstanding. The size is perfect, and you don’t have to do much to keep them alive.

Biggest downsides: When you first receive these succulents, you have to follow the instructions closely in order to get them acclimated to their new environment. This means providing them with soft, or indirect sunlight, for a few days before giving them direct sunlight. Since the plants are grown in a greenhouse, putting them on your window sill and getting direct sunlight right away can cause them to wilt or burn quickly.

This snake plant is the perfect house plant if you don’t want to do any maintenance, yet have an attractive looking plant in your home. It’s a beautiful plant that looks great with any home decor.

Price Check

Most notable upside: This Hirt’s Superba Robusta Snake Plant - Sanseveria is extremely easy to maintain, and you only need to water it when the soil is completely dry. It comes in a 4” pot, and the leaves are roughly 10” long. Possibly, the best part about this snake plant is if you want more of them and have some patience, you can prune the leaves and re-pot them to get another one. This snake plant received our Honorable Mention selection since you only get one plant with an order, but it is still easy to care for and maintain with little effort.

Biggest downsides: This snake plant is a little pricey for just being a single plant. It will continue to grow with proper care, and you can always prune and re-pot it to make additional plants, but that does require some effort. The growth of this plant is also limited in the small pot it comes in, so you may have to put it in a larger pot if you want it to grow taller.
