The type of thermostat that is used can also influence the energy usage on the property. We recently tested thermostats to determine which ones stand out and are the best buys for consumers.
The testing categories we used to rate each thermostat included Application, Design, and Quality.
Application – Part of our process included reviewing how easy the thermostats were to use and if they offered a useful function.
Design – The design and style of each thermostat contributed to its quality and if it looked appealing in the home.
Quality – We reviewed the overall quality of each thermostat and if it was constructed with durable materials.
The Nest Learning Thermostat works with Alexa for voice control and conserves energy by learning the habits of the residents in the home. It’s even available in four beautiful color options!
Most notable upside: The Nest Learning Thermostat is available in copper, stainless steel, white, and black to accommodate modern homes. We liked how it works by automatically adjusting the temperature after learning your habits, which allows you to quickly recoup the costs of the product. You can also choose a digital or analog face. We found the design to look sleek and futuristic, which helped when accessorizing interiors.
Biggest downsides: The thermostat lacks a hold feature, which may be inconvenient at times, but we found this to actually save more money.
The Emerson Sensi Wi-Fi Thermostat saves an average of 23 percent on energy usage and has seven-day flexible scheduling. Remote access and energy usage reports contribute to its appeal.
Most notable upside: We were impressed with how easy the Emerson Sensi was to install. It went up in less than 30 minutes and could be controlled while away from the building with your smartphone. We discovered that the thermostat has extensive compatibility by working with HVAC systems found in most homes, along with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple HomeKit.
Biggest downsides: Wifi connectivity can be an issue while attempting to install the thermostat, but customer support proved to be helpful and provided the necessary steps to resolving the issue to complete the setup process.
The Honeywell 1 Week Programmable Thermostat is extremely easy to use and is compatible with heating, cooling, and heat pumps without auxiliary heat.
Most notable upside: We also liked the Honeywell thermostat which took less than 20 minutes to install due to its easy directions and because it features a clear digital display complete with modern graphics. It proves to work well controlling the temperature in the building and offers a seamless and straightforward process.
Biggest downsides: The display on the device does not light up at night when you need to adjust the thermostat, but we found this to be a minor issue that doesn’t compromise its quality or how well it functions.
