How Often to Replace Pillows and Bedding
We use pillows and bedding every night when we sleep. However, no matter how comfortable our beds are, it is only important to change the pillows and beddings that we use regularly. Reasons on replacing our bedroom accessories may vary. We might want to redecorate, or we may need to replace our pillows and sheets because they are already worn out. Nonetheless, make sure that you replace them regularly, because failing to may lead to various problems and risks such as allergies, dust, and even mites.
But as much as we’d like to replace our pillows and beddings, most people don’t really know when to replace them. When should you replace your pillows and bedding? Below are some signs that they might need replacing:
Pillows
Your pillow is the place that comes in contact with your face every night, so it is important to pay attention to it. As time passes, your pillow may accumulate a lot of dirt, dust mites and other debris like oil and even dead skin cells. This is why you should make sure to wash your pillows regularly, and know when you should replace it so that you won’t have to suffer from other health problems like allergies or even breakouts.
Ideally, you should be changing your pillow once every two years. However, if you aren’t getting enough support, then you should change it even if the two years hasn’t passed yet. To lengthen the lifespan of your pillow, you can cover it with a protector, a waterproof one. You can also wash your pillow once a month, or take it out and expose it to sunlight to get rid of bacteria.
Bedding
If your beddings are already starting to fade, break, or when there are signs that the hems are fraying, then it might be time to replace them. Also check if there are stains. Generally, you should purchase quality beddings and sheets that won’t wear out easily. This is so that you can get the most out of your bedding.
Covers and Comforters
If you have a duvet or a comforter, then you should also wash it regularly in order to lengthen its lifespan. Just like the others, duvets and comforters also come in contact with your skin. It can build up bacteria, and they should ideally be replaced once in five years. Make sure you wash them once a month as well. If your duvet or comforter already has holes, or if you can visibly see that it has already suffered from wear and tear, then you should consider replacing it as well.
Sheets
For your bed sheets, make sure you wash them weekly, and should also be replaced once in two years. However, make sure you pay attention to the quality as well, because some may need to be replaced more often. If you are looking for a good replacement sheet, then you may want to consider purchasing one that has antibacterial properties, or those that repel bacteria or dust mites.
