However, frequent scrubbing and the use of harsh cleaners can damage the surface of your cookware. But you do you care for your various types of pots and pans? The first thing to take note of is the materials that have been used on your pots and pans. This will influence how you clean, protect and maintain them. But how do you care for your various types of cookware? Below are tips on how to care for the most common types of your kitchen pots and pans depending on the material:
Copper Cookware
If you have pots, pans and other kitchen materials that are made from copper, make sure that you don’t scrub them harshly, because this can ruin the tin lining on it. What you can do is to soak them in warm water to get rid of oils and other stains that may have stuck on the material. You can also soak it in a warm dishwashing solution before washing it. There are various copper cleaners available in the market which will help you maintain the quality of the material.
Non-stick Cookware
If you are washing non-stick cookware, make sur to check the instructions first, especially if you are planning to put them in the dishwasher. Most of these types of kitchen cookware aren’t meant to be put inside a dishwasher. To clean them, you can simply use warm water and a dishwashing liquid. You can also scrub your pots and pans to get rid of food residues as well.
Stainless Steel Cookware
If you have stainless steel pots, pans and other kitchen cookware, make sure that you don’t soak them, as they can easily become discolored. Stainless steel is also prone to burn marks as well. What you can do is that you can wash them by using the usual dishwasher after using, or you can simply pop them inside your dishwasher. If there are stains, there are also various types of cleaning products in the market that are suited for this kind of material.
Cast Iron Cookware
For cast iron pots and pans, make sure that you don’t soak them. This is because soaking can cause the iron to rust. What you can do is to wash your cast iron cookware with hot water along with dishwashing liquid. After washing them, make sure that you dry them up properly and thoroughly in order to prevent it from rusting. If you can see that rust spots are starting to form on your pots and pans, you can use vegetable oil and scrub them with steel wool to get rid of the spots.
Enamel Cookware
Enamel cookware can easily be cleaned, and you can also put them inside your dishwasher. However, make sure that you avoid using harsh cleansers or rough scrubbing pads so that you won’t end up scratching the material.
