Most homeowners assume that they will only be exposed to pollution whenever they step outside. However, what most homeowners don’t know is that there are also items in our home that are considered harmful. Our household items may also contain chemicals that can potentially be harmful to those who are living in our house.

It is important to make sure that our home is free toxins that can potentially build up and cause various health problems for those who are inside your home. It may manifest in various forms such as rashes and other skin issues, asthma, allergies, and many others. But what are the common toxins that are found in your home? What can you do to manage and keep your home clean?

  1. Mold

A common toxin found in most homes is mold. If you experience stuffiness, frequent coughing, skin and eye irritation, and other types of allergies, then your home may be suffering from molds. Molds can grow in moist spaces, and if your home isn’t well ventilated. This can also happen if your home has been exposed to flooding.

In order to combat mold, you can install a dehumidifier, or install exhaust fans and open windows. If your home has any leaks, fix them right away. Open your windows from time to time in order to circulate the air inside your home as well. Prevent mold from growing and from starting in the first place.

 Another toxin that might be present in your home are dust mites. Dust mites are tiny critters that aren’t visible to the eyes. Their fecal deposits can easily be transferred to the air and be inhaled by the people inside of your home. Dust mites can thrive anywhere in your home. They can be in your carpet, your mattress, and even in your dog’s dander.

In order to prevent dust mites from thriving in your home, make sure you clean your home and wash your sheets regularly. You can also purchase a dehumidifier. Keep it a habit to leave your mattress under the sun from time to time.

  1. Cleaning Products

You may not notice it, but your cleaning products also carry a lot of harmful toxins. Household cleaning products are known to have harsh chemicals like ammonia. Cleaning products nowadays contain very harsh chemicals that can cause burns or may harm or irritate the respiratory system. What can you do about this? If you really want to eliminate the toxins inside your home, you can switch to using natural cleaning products, or try natural cleaning methods like using vinegar and baking soda.

Detoxify And Add In Some Plants

While we may not be able to completely eradicate mold, dust, and other chemicals, we can prevent it, and we can lessen the toxins in our homes.

You can detoxify by reading the labels on household products before you use them, and try to use organic products as well. This can help lessen the toxins that enter your home. You can also add in some plants indoors. According to studies, indoor plants can help lower the levels of air pollution inside a home because they can absorb harmful gases. This way, they will be able to clean the air inside our homes.
