What are carpenter ants? Carpenter ants are known to build their nests and colonies around wood. This is why they can often be found inside houses or around them. Carpenter ants are also among the biggest ants in the country. They can be black, red or yellow, but the most common color is black.

Although they stay inside wood just like termites, they do not extend as much damage. Different from termites, carpenter ants do not eat wood. They just use it as their nesting place. While carpenter ants won’t eat your house’s wood, they can intrude into your home and get in the way of your food and water. A huge and developed colony may also increase the risk of damaging your home’s wood as well. They can easily become a nuisance, which can be quite annoying to deal with in your home. Knowing how to keep them away from your house is important. But how do you do it? Below are some tips on how to get rid of them and prevent them from going into your home:

Tips for Preventing Carpenter Ants from Entering Your Home:

  1. Make sure that your home is clean. This includes the kitchen, windows, and even your countertops. By eliminating dirt and food sources that may be lying around, this will also decrease the possibility of carpenter ants from entering your home.
  2. Put your food inside a sealed, or tightly closed bowls and containers. Make sure that you don’t have any crumbs or food residues lying around your pantry and other food areas.
  3. Refrain from leaving your dirty dishes in your sink. Make sure to wash and wipe them clean right away after using them.
  4. Cover your trash cans, and make sure to dispose of your trash properly. When you accidentally spill food on your homes floor or surfaces, make sure that you clean the area up immediately to avoid luring in carpenter ants.
  5. Seal any cracks, or holes that may serve as an entry point for carpenter ants. You can use caulk, tape or sealant.
  6. Make sure that your home is free from too much moisture. This includes clogged drains, leaks in your plumbing or basement, and other moist areas that might attract ants into your home.
  7. Keep your yard clean and free from spaces that may serve as nesting areas for ants. This includes dead trees, stumps, and other moist wooden items in your garden or yard.
  8. Keep away tree branches away from your home’s walls, because they can serve as a bridge for these carpenter ants to enter your house.

Getting Rid of Carpenter Ants

  1. One of the best was to get rid of these ants is by finding their nest. Nests are usually located in moist wooden areas. You can follow the ants back into their homes, and get rid of it.
  2. You can also use boiling water. Once you’ve found the nest of the carpenter ants, you can pour boiling water directly over it. You can also mix in some natural insecticide that will dissolve in water. However, make sure that you are careful while doing it.
  3. Make some ant bait. Make a solution and mix in equal portions of baking soda with powdered sugar. After that, place them inside areas where the ants are most commonly found.
  4. You can also try to sprinkle in some cinnamon around your windows and doorways, or other areas where you can find the carpenter ants. This will shoo them away and prevent them from entering your home.

Removing Vomit On Clothing

  • The first step would be to scrape off as much of the stains from the clothing as much as possible.
  • After that, apply warm water and baking soda on the affected area. Next, pour in some vinegar on the stain, until you see the baking soda fizz up or bubble.
  • Using a brush or toothbrush, rub the area and get rid of the stain, as much as possible. Rinse it with warm water, and then wash your clothes the normal way, or throw them in the water.
  • Check the clothing after air-drying it, and then repeat the process all over again if you see that there are still any stains remaining.
